The Union League of Philadelphia, ranked the #1 City Club in the country for an unprecedented sixth consecutive time, has commissioned sports and lifestyle artist Cassy Tully to create original holiday artwork depicting the club’s historic League House. The League is also hosting Cassy for a print signing during their Holiday Show on Thursday, December 6, 2023.
Since its founding in 1862, the League House, occupying an entire city block, has represented the values of freedom and enterprise, inspiring its more than 4,000 members who contribute to club life and preserve its traditions.
Cassy’s original 12 X 16” artwork depicts the majesty of the League House’s French Renaissance architecture, ribbons of snow gathered softly along its roofline and gracing its window pediments. Festive garland and bursts of red holly berries adorn the twin circular staircases and entrance roof, while wreaths, hung in the windows, beckon members with their holiday spirit.
“I am honored that my painting will be a treasured part of the Union League’s collection,” Cassy said. “Preserving our historic places on canvas is a remarkable legacy to leave for current and future Union League members and the guests that are so warmly welcomed into its halls.”
In addition to the painting, 12 X 16” prints and beautiful boxed notecards will be available in the Union League’s gift shop. This collection is an opportunity for members and guests to bring home a treasured keepsake.
The League House, built in 1865, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. At 1.25 million square feet of size, the building occupies eight floors, housing a distinguished collection of art. Its artifacts, adorning the walls and hallways, are recognized by historians and art experts as valued American history.
